Standard Toyota valves have a tendency to snap at the retaining groove when subjected to greater than normal forces found in high powered/revving engines, the valve then drops into the cylinder causing extensive damage to the cylinder, piston and head face. These uprated Intake valves are made exclusively from an enhanced versions of EV8 (21-4N) steel. This is the highest grade of steel available and provides the strength to withstand stress and temperature they will encounter in a highly tuned engine. These exhaust valves are made from EV16 (21-8N) or EV8-Nb/w for greater strength at higher temperatures. The Black Nitride coating features a harder surface and smoother finish, providing less friction and subsequently longer life.

By reducing the temperature of the inlet manifold the temperature of the intake air charge is also reduced. The density of cooler air is greater than that of warm air. A denser intake air charge contains more oxygen which results in the potential for increased power and torque. The exhaust gasket further decrease cylinder head temperature by reducing the heat transfer from the hot exhaust manifold.
